The Benefits of Round Tables for your Event
15th Nov 2019
Over the years, rectangular tables have proven to be very popular, maximising the use of space and offering aesthetic appeal. However, there’s another kid on the block who’s staking a claim for top billing: round tables.
If you’re holding an event, you might want to consider whether round tables could work better than standard rectangular tables. Here’s a look at some of the benefits they offer.
Inclusive and Engaging
No matter what type of event you’re holding, you want your guests to be able to interact comfortably and for conversation to flow easily. Rectangular tables can help to facilitate this somewhat, but the lines of people can be awkward if you want to speak to someone sitting on your side.
By contrast, round tables were designed for seamless interaction as the curved shape allows conversation to flow far more easily. As there are no rigid rows of people, the angles are far more natural and it’s easy to engage your neighbour in chat without having to crane your neck. Likewise, for anyone sat a few seats away; they’ll be easily accessible round the table rather than out of view in a straight line.
A round table enables everyone sat around to get involved in a conversation, allowing guests to choose anyone to engage with spontaneously.
Safety
No-one wants to consider the possibility of an accident occurring at their event and round tables can help to minimise the risk. A table may not sound like a particularly hazardous piece of furniture but if there are young children present, a square or rectangular design is best avoided.
This is because table corners are around the same height as a small child’s head and can easily inflict a painful injury. As round tables don’t have corners, there’s not the same potential for serious injury, even if the child does bump their head!
Easier for People to Move Around
Although you might naturally gravitate to a rectangular table if you have a small space, a round design is more practical. You will fit more people round a circular table compared to a square table, while still leaving more space in the venue.
If you’re worried about being able to get everyone seated without feeling like packed sardines, a round table is an excellent choice. As well as offering more seating per table, without the angles of a rectangular table there’s usually more room to be able to get to your chair too.
Create A Good Flow!
Round tables create an appealing flow in any room and are a sociable solution for any event. Circular tables get people chatting and create a far more engaging dynamic, helping the occasion to be a success. Of course, that doesn’t mean rectangular tables belong on the sidelines. Both have their place and can look fabulous. However, if you’ve always opted for a square or rectangular table, try switching to a round table for your event and discover the difference.
